Steve, thread, someone mentioned HW requirements for W2000. Here's an article by Winmag.com. It starts out saying P133 minimum, but ends up at PII or better. Probably, companies will buy PIIIs, at, what, 600 MHz and up. They won't want to be upgrading again for a while.

Just answered my own question: "is this the Coppermine Xeon with on die L2 cache?"

channel.intel.com shows that the 256k L2 cache model is on die, with the 512k, 1M & 2M L2 models having off die cache.

And then from cnetinvestor.com

"The processor is based on Intel's advanced 0.18-micron process technology, and features a 256 Kbyte Advanced Transfer Cache memory with Advanced System Buffering, which boost performance by placing a full-speed level-two cache memory directly on the processor die and increasing the width of the data pathway to the processor... Later this year, Intel plans to expand the product line with additional speed enhancements and higher cache options.

So the answer is yes but not quite.

2M on cache die is going to be fast, expensive and in demand. We always like to spec the 2M Xeons when putting in servers (Compaq ProLiants). The performance difference over the non Xeons is phenomenal and well worth paying a couple of grand per processor.
