Lizzie, Social Security is an issue that people, in general, don't have the training or expertise to grapple with, and most people don't know the simple facts. The percentage of people who think that everyone has a Social Security account with their contributions in it is more than half. Most people aren't capable of dealing with issues intellectually, and only have emotional responses, and the public debate on Social Security is a prime example.

<<Property taxes were becoming too high... how did they solve it - they voted to freeze taxes FOR THEM. >>

Now if someone who was say 22 owned a home when the freeze was voted in were their assessments frozen too or did you have to be a geezer?

<<SS going bust and needs a cash infusion, how do they solve the problem - raise taxes on the young ONLY. There were other solutions such as raising the retirement age to 70 which should have been a no-brainer but this group never does whats fair - they only do what is in their best interest irrespective of anybody else.>>

Who are they? I thought congress and the SSA ran SS. Are you suggesting it's run by a committee of elders?

The retirement has been increased going by year of birth. Plus the longer you work and pay in the higher the payout ie nihil working until 70 instead of 62.
