I think the rationale is that older workers believe that this is something they've earned, like a pension that you earn when you work for a big corporation. They've certainly had taxes deducted all their working lives. The equities haven't been clarified very well.

I'll tell you the one that galls me, people who are ineligible for medicare, but get around it by giving substantial assets to their heirs, who allow them to retain possession and control. I think that sucks. They say, "why should I have to spend my own money instead of leaving it for my kids?" Well, duh, it's the law.
