Why do those French words with the diacritical marks never look right on SI? And another thing, was that one of them or was that something else? I was in the neighborhood, saw the lights on, and thought I would drop in with this welcome plate of cookies for the new tenants. Please, have one. I made them myself - chocolate chip pecan, oatmeal raisin or ginger? Where have I been? Let's see, On Monday, I went to the Bay Area to dine at Chez Panisse that night. The meal was delightful, but I hardly expected goat to be served as the entree. Interesting. Earlier Monday, I met your friend and mine, the infamous X, and the absolutely adorable little x's. We enjoyed Chinese morning tea (dim sum) at a table with a wonderful view of San Francisco Bay and the city itself. My art collection was enhanced by gifts from the "little x collection." I am sure these will prove to be among the most valuable of my treasures. Yesterday, I played mahjong with friends, after feasting on fresh crab, fresh string beans and walnut prawns. I lost $3. After mahjong, we went to a quiet Shanghai-style eatery and sampled a few of their delicious specialties. Other than that, I also changed a few light bulbs, mopped up water from a leaky roof, cleaned up the hard-drive of a computer. (I was visiting my college Chinese professor. She is 86, and quite active but not up to jumping up on counters to change a burnt-out bulb.) Each night, we put on some excellent classical music, made ourselves some LungJing tea, and looked out at the view from her home: a 180 degree view of San Francisco Bay, looking beyond the lights of Oakland and the East Bay as far south as the San Mateo Bridge, and directly across at both the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco itself. Other than that, nothing is happening. And you?
