If Luzco really wanted to increase shareholder value, he would spin off the VRTS shares to shareholders. That way we wouldn't be stuck with a discounted value for this holding. Unless I am wrong, there would be no tax consequences until the individual investors sold VRTS themselves.

SEG owns aprox 90M (post 3:2 split) shares of VRTS worth a mere $13B at last count. If SEG sells any of this, you will see the sec filings.
