Bill, re: "Well Intel and Athlon would like to have people very brand conscious, however the proliferation of boxes with esoteric names and of assorted chips has exhausted the average consumers tolerance for brands. Like gas they shop for the lowest price for a working unit and the brand they want ends in the term Mhz and the higher the better at the lowest price."

Wrong. If you ask 100 consumers to name a computer chip, 50 will say Intel, 49 will say Pentium, and 1 will say AMD, 0 will say Athlon.

In a complex, expensive category, people will go with brand recognition above all else.
