How many shares of Palm?

Speculation: They'll issue as many shares as it takes to value the company at $5 billion or hopefully more and keep the IPO price modest (under $20, like most others). Then it pops and we're off to the races.

But the truth is it doesn't matter SQUAT. The same attention by so many on stock splits and number of shares when the total pie is unchanging is what lets investors come in and see that the parts of COMS are worth TONS more the whole in the $20s, and hence double their money or better.

I for one, am extremely grateful so many are so ignorant (or ignoring) of underlying value. It allows short-term pricing to be extremely inefficient, and offers substantial returns with relatively low risk.

I have to agree with Gary I really don't think it matters that much either, since the distribution will happen 6 months down the road. The main thing the IPO will do for COMS (besides adding to the cash stash) will be validating PALM and assigning a value to it, If the IPO is a hit COMS price will reflect it via market cap. One other plus to this scenario is COMS gets a couple more quarters to grow some new biz.

I expect COMS will flop around like this until a week or so before the IPO then we should see some nice action.
