Hello Paul,

I do believe that digital identities and a variety of relationships are going to be instrumental in exchange of information ... and a "balance" is simply information.

If I look at a simple example ...

If you and I both "join" (or become "users") of a regulated "directory" then we would both probably have a "balance" attribute associated with us. We would be able to read, but not write this value.

I could then make a request to a service at the directory to transfer some amount of funds from my "balance" to your "balance". It would verify that the funds are there, and then subtract from my "balance" and add to your "balance".

If, when I join the directory, I send a check or wire money to the "directory" owners, they add to my "balance" ...

Hmmm ... maybe I'll have to set up one of these "directories" with my new NetWare 5.1 server when it arrives ... this is actually a very good, and simple, directory application. ;-)

So have you now graduated to two LCD panels? I'm looking at two Apple LCD displays ... they are extremely nice! ;-)
