I think this is a myth and I think Intel's near term growth depends quite a bit on what AMD can do with respect to volume ramp. If AMD can ramp Dresden quickly, Intel's performance will be decidedly sub-par for the next few quarters until it ramps up a new processor core.

Losing market share on those high-end units is going to hurt.

It's easy to forget that the world population is eighteen times that of the U.S. Sure, tribesmen in New Guinea (apologies to all New Guineans out there) don't need PCs now, but they will eventually.

To state the obvious: the key is that the markets have to expand faster than the supply is added. My quite unsubstantiated suspicion is that for the moment the markets are not expanding faster than capacity is being added.

No, I'm definitely not considering shorting the stock. Too many greater fools out there.
