JMAR shares jump on order news
The price of shares in San Diego's JMAR Technologies soared almost 30 percent yesterday, after the specialty precision-equipment maker said it had received about $1.8 million in orders from an unnamed "DNA biochip company." JMAR closed at $7.121/2, up $1.621/2, in Nasdaq trading of more than 1.8 million shares -- about nine times the recent average trading volume. JMAR said it would supply several micro-positioning lithography alignment systems for use in making biochips, which allow scientists to perform large numbers of biochemical experiments quickly and cheaply.
