Umesh Amin Elected New Chairman of the Board Of Governors For Universal Wireless Communications Consortium

BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 10, 2000--The Universal Wireless Communications Consortium (UWCC), a leading wireless group of over 100 operators and vendors of Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA), Wireless Intelligent Network (WIN), and EDGE (Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution) technology standards, has officially announced the appointment of Umesh Amin as the new Chairman of the UWCC Board of Governors. Mr. Amin is currently the Director of the New Technologies and Planning Team at AT&T Wireless Services, responsible for new services planning and managing the wireless research program.

Gregory G. Williams, Chairman Emeritus of the UWCC and Vice President -- Wireless Systems SBC Communications, Inc. stated, "Umesh has been involved with UWCC activities since its inception in 1996. He has been providing valuable contributions that have helped TDMA become the most widely deployed technology in the Americas." Mr. Williams added, "With his UWCC experience and technical background, he will be a tremendous asset to the consortium."

Mr. Amin holds an undergraduate and graduate degree in Electrical Engineering from the City College of New York and has been a distinguished speaker on TDMA and EDGE at conferences around the world. Additionally, Mr. Amin serves on the editorial board of the IEEE Personal Communications Services Magazine and on the advisory board at the Central Washington University School of Business and Economics.
