<So, as I said, they are giving their earnings away and
you, as a shareholder, will tolerate it as long as the
stock price stays up.>

Nobody is 'giving' anything away. They are getting stock in exchange for cash. My guess is that their average buyback price has been significantly less than the current market price. BTW, as a shareholder, I have been thrilled with Intel's performance as a company and as a stock over the past 6 years.

<So the basic underlying fundamental that makes Intel worth $100 is that everybody else seems to think it ought to be worth that>

I don't know why others think Intel is worth 100. I believe Intel is worth 100 based on their track record (5 year 28% EPS growth rate, including 30% growth in the year about to be completed) and based on their future prospects which I consider to be better than ever.

< they will pretend that earnings are not squandered as they are in order to maintain this illusion.>

No body is pretending anything. The numbers are there for everyone to see. How you choose to interpret and judge those numbers is up to you.

<This is a rationale no better than that for Askjeeves.com, Ariba, etc. >

Intel is arguably the most successful and significant semi company in the world. They are a cash generating machine with an excellent long term track record. They are one of the most profitable companies in the world and the continue to be at the center of the hardware which is driving a world wide technology revolution which is still in its infancy. They have been generating record revenues and earnings quarter after quarter in a tough (disasterous by some people's account <g>) PC environment. It's a shame that you can't see the difference between Intel and askjeeves.com.
