Merrill Lynch Bullish QCOM Earnings Preview

QUALCOMM

Revenues should increase by 20% to $1.13 billion in the
December quarter. This assumes that the company will
ship about 2.2 million handsets and 16 million Application
Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs). This compares to 1.9
million phones and 14 million ASICs shipped in the
September quarter. QUALCOMM recently announced
plans to sell its handset business to Kyocera, and this
transaction is expected to be completed in the March 2000
quarter. While reported results in the December quarter
will include contributions from the handset business, it
will not include sales of infrastructure equipment. The
more favorable product mix should lead to a 10 point
improvement in gross margins.
