It isn't hopeless to try to control slowly responding systems. You have to be aware of the system response time and take it into account when changing anything. IMHO, the Fed has been absolutely correct in making small changes over a long period of time. I expect that approach to continue. I expect 1/4% increase in Feb with a neutral bias OR 0% with an upward bias. We have been running at very low inflation with low unemployment for a long time. IMHO, there is no compelling reason for the Fed to change an approach that has, from the inflation data, worked so extremely well so far.
