Phone sage update: As many of you know I have been waiting two weeks for my phone. This am I found out that everyone did thier job but FedEx who shipped my phone to someone in Texas. I am in Idaho. So now AirTouch has its 1st missing phone out there in the hands of some J. Gonzales. AirTouch (Globlastar USA) and the customer care folks at Globalstar have been great and responsive. They are crediting my account for the monthly service fee and are shipping a new phone. I was kinda hoping Cellstar would be out of phones by now but that is not the case...yet.

RS. You know considerably more about G* than I do, but I do not understand why you think Dealer would not be able to make a G* call without Aruba's agreement. (Actually, from my understanding of the Iridium system I can't see that being a problem for them either, though I remember a bit about the Cramer incident you cite). Dealer will pull up her antenna and talk directly to all of the 3 or 4 satellites which are within view and they will relay down to Clifton Texas (I presume--I don't know if that service center in southern Mexico or the other one on the isthmus are complete yet). So I can't imagine how Aruba (which precise geographic location I am fuzzy about) would prevent her calls short of confiscating the phone. The assumption that Clifton is the only station within 1500 or 2000 miles probably means not all 3 or 4 satellites within her range will also be within range of the nearest operating service center (gateway).

To Rocket Scientist and others that were trying to help me last night. Dang! My apologizes to those that were trying to help me with my qcom/globalstar phone. YOU ARE RIGHT!!!! They do not have satellite service in Aruba.....I had asked if it worked in Aruba and the idiot told me yes. Well only if I use my credit card on the cellular part.....I had pulled up the map on the internet and it shows that Aruba is covered already.....I assumed covered was working. Gotta look up the word covered.
I will however test it ever so often and see how far out it will work. I know my cellular stopped before I lost the sight of land. I will get back to you when I get back. I will be charged regular cellular rate for the call plus long distance. My charge bill will be very interesting when I get it.

I thank you guys for trying to help me when your help was not wanted but needed.
Still not upset by purchasing the phone because I will eventually use it. I might stay home and play with my stocks until they get this thing off the ground. I guess this would be a good time to travel in the states. Lots of things to see here. It does work here anyway.

My apologies again and thanks for all of your help! People on this board are so nice and always trying to help.

P.S. Now after all that let me tell you what I think. I think it is going to work but they are not licensed and can not tell me that. Will report back. Enough said.......I will leave the rest of my thoughts til I get back. Maybe I can find an internet cafe along the way
