People who have gone through the previous OPEC crises overreact to rising gasoline prices IMHO. I know that at $2.50/gallon the increase on my monthly budget will be less than 2% for gas. Perhaps another 1% should be added for a 50% (very very unlikely) increase in food prices. Gasoline prices have stayed at the present level for a long time now. Also, the EU have handled higher gasoline prices (inclusive of taxes) for decades now. In any case, there is always public transportation.
