Don, I think the serious flaw in that price-rising scenario is the human element. When auto companies offered rebates up the kazoo in the mid 80s and then tried to stop them when times looked better, they discovered that many people just wouldn't buy. I believe that after 5 years of rapid advances in computer power and the entire buying public now conditioned to expect prices to go down, if not now, then next month, any increases in price will be met with an exaggerated decline in demand. All of a sudden, people will look around for better places to spend their money. Or, Heaven forbid, pay down some debt.

Don, Wow, this Edlestone is like Dracula. He keeps rising from the grave of his lousy sense of business fundamentals. I thought I'd put the stake in his heart back in July of 1996 when we had a mini debate in "The Journal of Business for San Jose and Silicon Valley." He said that Atmel was undervalued and had huge upside. I said that its business was slipping and the stock was ready for a nosedive. Now, 3 1/2 years later, Atmel has finally recovered to where Edlestone liked it. And my puts have long been turned into cash. <g>

Don:

"Earth to Edelrock",....uh, about those wondrous semi conditions,....we have a guy here who wants to know how come the 64s have fallen by half over the last short period, after the big, Y2K inventory build?"
(64 chips at $7.75 to $8.00 after running up above $15)

Best, Earlie
