MDTV Signs First U.S. Letter Of Intent During Successful Consumer Electronics Show RICHMOND, British Columbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 13, 2000-- (OTC BB:MDTV) Sheldon Nelson CEO & Chairman, reports that MDU Communications International, Inc. (OTC BB:MDTV) has signed a Letter of Intent for its first United States multiple dwelling unit (MDU) property of 498 suites. MDTV expects to begin its deployment into the U.S. multi-dwelling unit market place, estimated to have in excess of 27 million residences, early in the second quarter of this year. Initially, the Company will supply a Digital Satellite television and high-speed broadband internet service to the residents of this property, with the hope of adding competitive local and long distance telephone service soon thereafter. The first property signed to a letter of intent is in Denver, Colorado. The property is owned by WRE Enterprises, whose total holdings represent approximately 7,000 suites. Currently, MDTV serves a number of WRE Enterprises' Canadian properties. Under the terms of the letter of intent, MDTV will be performing the necessary technical and marketing due diligence at the site over the next 45 days. Joseph Strang, VP Marketing, explains ``combine the success we are experiencing with these clients in Canada and the positive feedback from their tenants, with the passing of the Satellite Home Viewers Act in the U.S. (which allows for the carriage of local channels on Satellite) and it makes sense for MDTV to accelerate our deployment into U.S. properties.' Mr. Gary Monaghan, President of MDU Communications Inc. says, ``This first property in the U.S. opens the door to the massive U.S. MDU market. Several of our existing clients that own multi-dwelling unit properties including hotels and gated communities, have U.S. properties they want installed with the latest technologies. Their residents want the benefits of choice and we will provide it. The interest we have received from other property owners and their representatives over the past 60 days is growing as more attention is beginning to focus on this under served market.' Senior representatives of MDTV attended the Consumer Electronics Show earlier this month to meet with potential suppliers of Digital Satellite Television services as well as other potential technology providers in preparation for MDTV's U.S. deployment. About MDTV: MDTV is the NATIONAL MASTER SYSTEM OPERATOR for Star Choice Television, one of only two licensed providers of direct to home satellite broadcasting services in Canada. MDU provides digital satellite television, high-speed (broadband) Internet access, monitored security services, and telephony to the multi-dwelling unit market place in North America with expected expansion into Asia. The MDU market has over 30 million homes in North America alone. MDTV currently serves 14,000 subscribers in 150 properties and has an additional 300 buildings, representing 40,000 potential new subscribers signed to letters of intent or access agreements.
