Intrenet Uses Qualcomm's Commun/Freight-Tracking Program

MILFORD, Ohio -- Intrenet Inc. (INET) will use a systemwide mobile satellite communications and freight-tracking program from Qualcomm Inc. (QCOM), after testing it in a fourth-quarter regional pilot program.

Financial terms weren't disclosed.

Intrenet, a flatbed carrier company, said in a press release Thursday that Qualcomm's OmniTracs system will cover its entire fleet.

The information management system will provide improved customer service through real-time freight and vehicle tracking for Intrenet's Roadrunner Trucking, Roadrunner Distribution Services, Eck Miller Transportation and Advanced Distribution System units.

The system also will help to expedite shipping and operating efficiencies, the company said.

I have always wanted to backpack into the Sierras alone...but never have because of the danger of accident and the inability to get help. A Globalstar phone will fix that.

Even though having a phone up there is counter to the experience of the wilderness, I know several people considering getting one of these G* thingies.

Depends on the foreign country. My phone in upstate New York roamed seamlessly into Canada, and indeed used Canadian BTSs even when on the NY side of the St Lawrence River (much to my surprise when I got my bill, I thought I assumed I was roaming within NY).

Strange how you can make a purchase into a foreign country by giving them your VISA card number over the phone, but they won;t allow you to raom into a foreign country with a phone tied into your VISA card? Carriers are strange birds.
