Danger,

When evaluating margin tolerance, experience is the only teacher. I believe you now know your tolerance and can proceed accordingly next time. The only other option I am aware of is not to use margin at all, which is emptying the tool box(IMHO).

dangergirl, if you didnt sell, there would have been
a meltdown, but since we sold, of course it goes up a few.
Im not afraid to make mistakes, because hopefully I wont
make the same one twice.
I sold aol, for a lot of reasons. If I had the resources
that some do, i would not have sold. every thing i made
on aol was fully margined and a lot of sleepless nights,
so i can take some profits and sleep well.
I started with dell, then aol. now im out of both and
my only stocks are Qcom,jdsu,txn.
yes, I am sorry i had to sell aol,it is like dell, a great company, and great long term buy and hold- however, i will not make the mistake i have seen others make and that is to fall in love with a stock.
Volt was out of dell long ago and had i been smart enough, i would have been also, but hey, im learning and have learned much from this thread. good luck to us all, JohnQ
