Wireless Carriers to See AOL Merger Benefit, WSJ Says (Correct)

New York, Jan. 13 (Bloomberg) -- Vodafone AirTouch Plc and other wireless phone companies said America Online Inc.'s acquisition of Time Warner Inc. will give them the ability to send television programs and video clips to a cellular phone, the Wall Street Journal reported. Once the transaction is completed, wireless carriers will gain the technology to offer subscribers choices ranging from Cable News Network updates to highlights from People magazine, as well as delivering content more rapidly. Omnipoint Corp. Chief Executive Douglas Smith said the merger will change wireless carriers to ``wireless portals' that provide a wider variety of Web content than most wireless users can now easily obtain, the paper said.

AT&T Corp. and other large U.S. telephone companies may seek alliances with AOL Time Warner to boost revenue and gain access to online content designed for high-speed Web connections, analysts said.

MOT missed the boat on the conversation from analog to digital because of their own corporate ego. Unless something has changed in recent days it probably will effect their decisions regarding IP and internet devices. FWIT
