Elmer - RE: "You have never responded to the question: Seeing as Compaq dislikes Intel and loves AMD, why did Compaq choose CuMine for their x86 workstation and forego using the Athlon?"

You never asked me. ;)

"I put it to you, given the choice, they chose the CuMine over the Athlon because it was clear to them that the CuMine outperformed the Athlon. Even with their dislike for Intel, the CuMine was the better choice and they couldn't deny it."

Maybe because with the i840 platform and expensive DRDRAM that is true.

But Mani just today told us in a REAL-WORLD situation, the Athlon 650 is faster than a Cumine 667 running what I believe to be a heavy duty app, so we know the Athlon is faster in certain situations.

Anand has shown tests that show Cumine to be faster and some Athlon to be faster.

If the Athlon IS superior, this is something AMD very much needs to address. Pionex is a start, but Compaq would be a boost.

Maybe AMD will have to wait for Thunderbird or the chipset that allows the use of DDR SDRAM to get into Tier 1 OEM workstations.
