Yes, I'll pass it along, Mike. I recall your mentioning this in LM too. I should backpeddle a bit. Upgrading the outside plant is an end in itself, which is separate from, as well as being a dependency of, establishing a cablemodem platform. If cablemodem didn't exist, outside plant upgrades to HFC would still be a requirement for improved NTSC video and future interactive digitals in the upper parts of the spectrum.

Having stated the above, however, the use and timing of statements concerning cable upgrades, at a time when all the focus is on high speed cablemodem Internet access, either says that they know how to work their wordsmithing to fit a dual marketectural purpose, or that the statement was made in a context which was divorced from the central theme of Internet access, only to suffer at the hands of cynics like us. -g-

In any event, they do have a substantial amount of outside plant cable upgrades complete, but that has little immediate bearing on their ability to drop off a cable modem to the end user's doorstep at this time. With the heightened focus now on AOL-TWX, I think we'll be seeing more and hopefully better information on this, soon.

Regards, Frank
