One of the things
that helped to make me a conservative was that the ACLU could not see that although the Nazis had a right to public assembly in
the Chicago area, they did not have a right to harass a bunch of Holocaust survivors in the town of Skokie, merely for publicity.
There were much less confrontational ways of making reasonable accommodation for their first amendment rights. Conservatives
should know better than to defend an "anything goes" attitude.......


What would the Nazis have accepted as "reasonable accommodation". As you state they wished to confront and harass, if things worked in their favor. The media focus almost assured the confrontation. Don King couldn't have done a better job. That said, the alternative is a reclusive sub-culture that gains power through this "suppression" of their rights.

I am generally more comfortable with relevatory free speech (non-criminal). Let their ideas stand in the bright light of day.
