To summarize, this is where our differences lie: you do not trust the Govt. at all, and I think that the Govt. is doing an excellent job and have a lot of trust in Govt. statistics.

No point debating these subjective positions. Let's agree to disagree?

Just about every self-respecting government massages its reported inflation numbers. They wouldn't be "for the people" if they didn't.

In the 80's, the Japanese inflation statistics didn't reflect the surging real estate prices, for instance.
