Well, it was a long time coming, we'd gather occasionally in the evening hours and sip a brandy on Voltaire's porch, sometimes he'd lounge with us, but it was only today that he decided to throw open all the french doors and hold a gen-you-wine PARTY. Ain't it the best?

Vol -

How nice to be over at your place. Just help my self to a Dewars and soda....mmmm thanks...thats better now, as I was saying:-

RE your post about the market direction in Feb/early Mar. I agree with you. Indeed I posted here in late Dec that come the end of earnings season in Jan Mr G would hit the ground running toinject soome worry into the market.

I think the following:- -

1. Don't be fooled by great up days like today. I must admit that they seduce me as did last Mondays hike. These ups will not last.

2. Towards the end of earnings season ie in about the end of the week after next the market will tank. It may not wait till the end of the week after next indeed it may weel start its southward trek in the middle of next week.

3. Why? Well we might differ just a little here. I happen to believe that it is a significant reduction in buying pressure rather than any form of selling co-ordinated or otherwise that causes the prices to drop.

4. What does it look like? Down 30-50 points a day interspersed with a couple of mediocre up days just to keep peoples interest and hope alive.

5. Does it hit all stocks. Going back to last Jan I seem to remember some stocks getting off quite lightly.

6. What about the Q? Well the 25th is very very late in the day to avoid getting slugged. Q might just scrape through but my guess is that the slide will start next Thursday and last for approx. 6 weeks until the end of the second week of March. Interpolating then my guess is a drop of about 100 to 125 points a week (NAZ) for say six weeks landing up at around 3,200 to 3,400. Just MHO and based nothing more than what seemed to me to happen last January, last March, last April and last June.

So far as the Q peformance is concerned I expectt as I posted earlier to mg that it will be nothing short of spectacular. What I don't have a feel for is whether that will be enough to sustain it through the slide.

Best regards,

L
