What percentage of the US population own 14 mpg SRVs? I think that you are grossly overestimating the across the board 10% excise tax. And the trade deficit is largely the result of foreigners finding the US to be an attractive place to invest. And, even then, it may very well be overestimated because the US knowledge industries products are often undercounted.
