<<Did I mention among all the new MP3 devices on display at CES, was one that stored 82 hours of music, or over 100 CD's on a 4.86 gig hard drive? It used a laptop drive with a flash buffer that meant it only had to fire up the drive occasionally to reload the buffer. So, battery consuption was pretty low and it wasn't as shock sensitive as if it were constantly running off the drive. Cost was around $800.

Pretty impressive. It raises a few thoughts. Obviously, there is room for the price to come down dramatically. Second, can drives be made tough enough or isolated well enough to be used in car stereos. Third, I believe there is some quality degradation of sound quality for MP3 vs CD. How soon untill be see a more storage intensive, higher quality compression algorithm? -Z
