OT...Yes I remember driving over the pass...whoa it was quite a ride.
Sorry I do not recall your particular town NOW...I lived in Germany in 1986-1989...so lost a few brain cells since then.
I was always on my way to Firenze, Roma or Vincenza...

I also was stranded on the Isola de Elba for one month with my girlfriend. I was driving my Japanese Honda and it had a breakdown. The new clutch part had to be shipped by slow boat from who knows where..Cost me a lot of lire. Oh what fun we had on the Island of Napoleans exile. But the Italians kept telling me what a piece of "s**t" car I was driving!!

By the way...not only do they not take American Express on Elba...they don't take Visa or Mastercard either. I think we were the only Americans they had seen in many years on that island.
