Sticking with what you have is often attractive and is another reason why this case is unnecessary. MSFT has to move forward to get consumers to continue paying them money. Their own legacy products are in fact currently a big competitor, as your statements confirm. However, I would be very, very surprised if those consumers that have chosen to spend money upgrading their OS software were to choose Windows95 over Windows98 in significant numbers. I know of no evidence suggesting such a trend.
