> I'm thinking of bailing Wednesday or earlier. You know, the old buy on the rumor, sell on the news theory.

I was thinking the same thing...however, AMD might give much better than expected news and forward projections, which would mean we'd miss out on a possible big gap up Thursday.

Kevin, no way am I selling!!!! If this does follow suit of Intel, Wednesday is just the beginning. I think AMD is also going to show this quarter has been their best in a long time as well.

I'm not saying AMD is a mini Intel, nor am I saying they should be compared in every way. However, as I wrote in previous posts today, the average "Joe Blow" sees AMD/Intel as chipmakers AND DOES compare them. I believe this is the type of overall trading mentality for AMD. I think today substantiates that fact!!!!!!!!

Too many alliances. Too many press releases in their favor regarding Athlon. Too many backorders (a problem - but NOT with revenue - unless it lasts forever) which insures revenue to come. Technology seemingly (from what I read and hear) being developed faster than Intel.

I believe this stock is undervalued BIG time. This is one of the first rays of sunshine that will illuminate them for everyone to see. I believe this is a $50.00 stock easily. I think if improvement is made regarding their demand, an $80 to $100 stock by the end of summer.

Some interesting news

This article discussing the kx133 and solano includes a few interesting quotes:

<The KX133 is equally important for the Athlon camp, because it will help maintain a performance edge over Intel. "Putting faster memory onto the already-fast 200-MHz Athlon bus should give systems a performance boost of 5 percent to 10 percent," said Nathan Brookwood, principal analyst for market research firm Insight64 (Saratoga, Calif.). "The Athlon is currently running neck and neck with Intel's Coppermine chips, so this chip set is critical for AMD.">

<Intel's stumble on the road to Rambus memories may have handed a market advantage to Via in chip sets and to Advanced Micro Devices in processors that could last the next several months, analysts said.>

These are nice quips, but the whole article isn't so rosy:

<Slater said AMD appears to be hitting its Athlon production targets, shipping about 800,000 in the fourth quarter of 1999.>
This is not very good news, if accurate. It doesn't jibe with the recent talk on this thread and elsewhere.

<Steve Lapinski, director of product marketing at AMD, confirmed that the company is able to meet demand. The company's new fab in Dresden, Germany is "on track for production in the second half of 2000, using copper" interconnects, he said. At a financial analysts meeting in November, AMD demonstrated a copper-based Athlon running at 900 MHz, he said.>

This is definetly news to me. I'm pretty sure the target date for Dresden was 2q, not 2nd half.

Kevin

Re:"bailing"

I think the BIG money has been buying in the 30's.

I suspect the shorts are gonna get squeezed on Thursday just like with Intel today.

Having said that its always good to take profits.

I may sell and roll over to Jan 50 calls if we get close to the mid 45's before earnings release.

Just my $.02

regards,

Kash
