The Spear Report addresses "Globalstar's Drop"

Globalstar's recent drop in price per share is characterized by The Spear Report as attributable to ML downgrade/comments after quick increase in stock price. The article notes that ML cited handset price and retail cost per minute of air time as prohibitive but counters that Globalstar's goal is to "complement," not compete against, cell phones. Spear thinks ML is unfairly comparing G* to Iridium and ICO Global in its analysis.

ML also questions whether G* will have enough subs to be profitable.
This report states that G* expects 650,000 users by year's end (and gives 250k as break-even number) and estimates 40mm potential customers worldwide.
Primary target market of G* is listed as "industrial vertical markets": utilities, mining, natural resources, maritime, government, and transportation.

The report cites technical advantages, big-name investors, and well-executed rollout as advantages over Iridium that analysts may not be considering. Spear also predicts lower prices as the rollout gains momentum and closes with this Gilder quote, "Globalstar's decision to use CDMA and keep most of the power-hungry electronics on the ground sealed its superiority over Iridium and assures its Millennial future."
