I must say, if I thought that losing my virginity was going to be like this, I probably would have remained celibate.

We have all pretty well settled on identifying and buying the Gorilla when it has entered the tornado.

Having been both corrected and supported myself in my own characterization of when it was that one "should" invest if one is playing the gorilla game, I think it is safe to say that there is a diversity of opinion or styles, ranging from those who are inclined to buy a gorilla only once truly established, though those who attempt to climb on mid-tornado to those who attempt to pick the future winner at the beginning of the tornado (or buy the basket). The former minimize risk, get better than market returns, but miss out on the dramatic gains of the tornado, while the later get greater rewards with greater risk. Were one a purist, one might say that picking a single future winner at the beginning of the tornado was not really gorilla game, but at the least we are all looking at these companies from the same perspective.

Bob,

Occasionally I have to remind people that I hate generalizatios. So when Lindy sez "We have all pretty well settled on identifying and buying the Gorilla when it has entered the tornado," I would urge that you read the manual and the messages in this thread before coming to your own conclusions.

You've already seen the post that shows the manual's recommendation of when to buy the stock of companies selling enabling products vs those selling applications products. I would be happy to buy stock of the right company selling applications products that are still in the bowling alley.

Many thanks to all the folks who responded with both statements of welcome as well as information.

A perspective from a newbie to the board. It is indeed wonderful to view (and when appropriate, participate in) intelligent discussion - far removed from the bashing and fear-mongering that exists on many other boards.
