Jm 3G is not the reason Qcom has the wireless world by the scruff and neck. In my opinion 3G is irrelevent to Qcom's growth. In actuality 1xrt and HDR could delay 3G for many years by providing super high data speeds cheeply to existing systems. The momentum towerds CDMA dominence continues and though it looks like Europe will be late to the party in Japan, Asia, Latin America CDMA slowly will take majority market share as it has in the USA. In an open market CDMA will win because its more spectrial effient. Therfore in a common standard or an open market CDMA will still be a dominent force! SO relax!

jman, I took away a few things from that article. 1) In print, DoCoMo admits they owe Q royalties for W-CDMA, 2)They are whining, which means they know they are screwed.

IJ has set out multiple, seamless upgrade paths for DDI/IDO to follow from their existing CDMAOne network. You now have KYO, part owner of the future DDI/IDO/KDD merged company, with the handset division. Plus, Toyota is a part owner and I would expect will start putting devices in their vehicles. I don't think DoCoMo's position is all the press makes it to be.

Funny. Reading that article I feel better than ever about QCOM's lead. QCOM is the only company that has a published timetable for their 3G and has actually delivered the first piece of it EARLY! Not only that but they have HDR which will beat out the others by 2 or more years to broadband data speeds.

Such a big deal is made out of NTT docomo's iMode and the article states that they will only be at 64K NEXT year! Their CDMA rival rolled out 64K this month!

This article is positive for Q. 3G pushed out on Europe while Q is "quietly" sampling its 3G chips. The different perceptions on the same article makes the market. You sell I buy.
