"What is the difference whether you sold at $110 " If you hold a stock the length of time you suggest, one would not need to know how to buy or sell. They would just have to get lucky. The majority of people are not lucky and prefer to make money on a daily, not limited to playing the market using only Position Trades as you suggest. In fact, if you bought msft before the 1st split, position trading would be the only option at that time since computers have made Swing & Daytrading possible only recently.
