Nihil, Microsoft makes Windows bigger and slower faster than Intel makes Pentiums faster and cheaper. This is the reason that
Intel skyrockets in the six months after every new Windows version debuts.

Microsoft seems to be stressing more memory as the primary improvement needed for W2K, a faster processor next most important. Too bad there isn't a value play DRAM stock right now. You can say Micron, but you have the big Far East guys like Samsung, Hyundai, etc. that can beat your brains in with price. Then there's Rambus if you can stand a stock with infinite beta. Think I'll pass on DRAM stocks for now.

I believe this time it's different. Cf #reply-12582013. The only way W2K gives x86 mp demand another boost is if it spurs a round of corporate upgrades (Tony Viola's bundling argument) or makes substantial inroads into areas not already x86-saturated (as Microsoft wants). The former seems improbable, but given the Redmond brigade's marketing might, the latter seems within reach. We'll see. -mb
