Whatsa matta..50 shares not in their vocabulary?? <ggg>...actually I bought 20 shares of ctxs for my little one about a year ago...I think around presplit 44 or so..and this thing has been meteoric ever since...I think we get more bang for the buck ifthe shares remain at 300 and continue to soar...with most splits comes the inevitable ritual known as selling your split shares and letting the nonsplit shares ride...this translates into an extended period of distribution which is kinda crummy...look what happened to qcom...stock ballistic...500,600,700 and then the split and now everybody is selling their shares 150,140,130 and down...so tell the relatives to save their pennies for awhile so we can make our small fortune first!!

RE: <md1, I want a split for the sake of my friends and relatives, who won't invest unless they can buy at least 100 shares.>

In April I set up an account with Waterhouse for my daughter and put some money in it. She invested in 7 bandwidth-related companies including BRCM, CNXT, and JDSU. She bought 6 or 8 or 12 shares of these companies. Since April her account has more than tripled even though 3 of her companies have been dogs.

Why would anyone insist on not buying less than 100 shares?

Tell your relatives that I put $500 in my son's education IRA last year.

What do you buy with only $500?

I saw Yahoo was $247/share, so I bought 2 shares for him.

Yahoo split, so he now has 4 shares which recently were in the $400 range. (It's getting ready to split again next month.) I might even accumulate enough in his IRA to pay for a couple of years of college some day.

Two years ago, I bought $1k of Cisco (15 shares). Two splits later, I have 44 shares worth $4.4k. (I'll bet ya Cisco splits again this year.)

I bought 9 shares of CMGI last year and two splits later have 36 shares.

I also bought 20 shares of BRCM at $128/share last year. It split and my initial $2.6k is now worth $11.8k.

I have this theory that expensive stocks have a tendency to get more expensive....
