Who's trying to predict a crash? I just want to be short when momentum is down or long when momentum is up. I have found that it is nearly impossible for long-term holders and traders to agree on strategy.

There is no way to predict a crash, when it happens(as in 87) it will be caused by an extrenous event. In 1998 it was LTCM in 2000 it could be anything, and it might not happen until 2008.

I don't know about that. I avoided a few crashes using TA. I admit that I've never gotten out at market tops, but I'm usually out before the big falls. The same thing goes for market bottoms -- never managed to call one correctly, but I've always been able to know when a recovery is confirmed.

Calling market tops and bottoms accurately is nearly impossible, IMHO. Everyone tries it (to be a hero or an oracle?), but I've yet to see someone who has been dead on twice in a row.
