Eric L: Yes you did mix us up in your post. But then I understand you are Eric L because otherwise you are mixed up with "Eric" on the Cisco thread. I am Cha2 in order to bow deeply in the direction of "chaz" who preceded me here.

Still some confusion, but I usually gain when it happens - such as in your post.

Wish I could take credit for chaz's initiative, but it is his idea and he has been a dynamo in making it go.

I congratulate chaz for his initiative and his strong follow through.

Wish the best for "Project Hunt" - if Mike's name is chosen.

Sadly I am too old and lazy to take on one of the companies, but not so far gone that I can't participate as it proceeds. Look forward to adding what I can.

Best.

Cha2

Eric L: For those who follow the handhelds, this is a very positive report on what ARMHY and PSION's role may be for Nokia in handhelds:

According to this report. singing the praise of another company - ARM Holdings in this case - is rare for Nokia.

And Linus Thorvalds company Transmeta 's "Crusoe" is news to me, guess has been under wraps. Curious about it. Can anyone here provide any info on it?

Nokia:"phones stay Armed", Transmeta by IBM may get web-pads

Finlands biggest newspaper has a very, very interesting short story this morning. Nokia gives very seldom any
2nd or 3th party company support via pressarticle like this.
(Text is not an translation, but my notes on article.)

Linus Thorvalds company provokes Intel-processors

According recent Financial Times Transmeta Crusoe-chip is targetted to PC "smaller than PC" markets. Crusoe could run using very small voltage and currency compared to mobile pentiums.
Crusoe chips possible targetmarkets are seen to be web-pad, web-book devices, which must be able to run multimedia
from windows and other sources.

According Nokia Crusoes target is not cellphones:
" We have got no offers on Crusoe."
" I don't believe there is any miracles inside Transmeta ", says Mikko Terho Nokia Mobile Phones.
Nokia uses Texas Instruments chips. Terho says Nokia has own chip-projects going forward with ARM.
" We are totally satisfied with recent and future versions of
ARM-architechture ", he says.
" The future operatingsystem for mediaphones is and will be Symbian (EPOC) ", Terho pronounces.
Transmetas chip is targetted to Windows/Linux markets.
Nokia is going to make name in webpadmarkets too, but that will be another story.

By the way this is the first article which I've ever seen in which Nokia talks anything this subject: They are in business developing future ARM-chips with Arm Holdings Plc, Texas Instruments and others.

:" Yes, there is a secret message, and this is it:
Transmeta's policy has been to remain silent about its plans
until it had something to demonstrate to the world.
On January 19th, 2000, Transmeta is going to announce and demonstrate
what Crusoe processors can do.
Simultaneously, all of the details will go up on this Web site
for everyone on the Internet to see.
Crusoe will be cool hardware and software for mobile applications.
Crusoe will be unconventional, which is why we wanted
to let you know in advance to come look at the entire Web site
in January, so that you can get the full story and have access to all
of the real details as soon as they are available.
