Meat, re: Something smells when Fortuna goes out of his way to reiterate and rewarn that Dell's Q will be weak before the market even opened on Intel's news.

Seriously, something is really wrong or strange here. Either Niles /ML have a mole inside DELL guiding them that things are bad this quarter (possible, but it seems very hard to believe given the strength of INTC and PCs in general) or they have a major financial interest in keeping the price of DELL down for a bit (significant short or options exposure?). The latter would seem to be a bit unethical if not illegal to me. There is something truly rotten here and I do not have a good handle on it. I am sure ML can cover its tracks for their repeated attempts to bash the stock if DELL posts $.19 or $.20, or the top-line is a tad off, etc., but without a doubt the outlook for the fastest growing PC / technology solutions company in a robust high growth sector is bright. The way ML has handled this is more than just a research / analytical call (did they really use the word "horrific" in their latest diatribe?) ... the firm almost seems desperate to contain DELL's stock price until quarterly earnings are released. It might help if we had a mole inside ML for true motive!

Meathead,

The only possible negative for Dell in the current quarter is the timing of Windows 2000. If I was in the market for a new PC, I'd wait until I could get the new OS on/about Feb 10. If others feel this way, the cloud has a silver lining, bc the next q will be very strong.

More good news for next quarter is that most of the Y2K freezes should be over at the end of January.

If Dell has a strong current quarter (and they may well given the strong INTC report), just imagine what the next quarter will look like with a bit of pent up demand and Windows 2000.
