G'day all - hi Mark, not sure how I should read this

perhaps CMTO is the WSTL (circa 1996) of cable modems.

since there is not enough parallel [to me anyway.] xDSL was plague with standardization issues and RBOC foot dragging. Time has changed. To say the least, DOSIS is a decent de facto standard. And Cable Lab has made some reasonable effort to avoid the Wide West scene of xDSL. In retrospect, had the RBOCs come together and made a go of xDSL, they probably wouldn't have to ceding some of their dominance to the cable guys and the CLECs, especially the new crop of cos like COVD.

I want to agree with you though that the deep pockets are not to be taken lightly. CMTO still has a good window of opportunity to leverage her 2nd runner up position to expand market shares, mind shares and new markets.

I think her failure to get certification from Cable Lab last year set her momentum back a lot. But then, people wouldn't be able to pick up cheap shares if she had not stumbled :). In this environment, probably 2 strikes and she is out for good. OTOH, if CMTO executes well from right on, I think shareholders will be rewarded. Additionally, considering the market cap, she is also a candidate for you know what :)

best, Bosco
