I guess it all depends on whether you're 20 years from retirement or 2 years, or whether you're 15 years from dipping into your college fund or 1 and a half years. It also depends on whether you're saving money on a monthly basis and adding to the investments or you're borrowing to trade and spending the difference. I could go on with the many distinctions.
