Jim- I've got a Discover (msdw online) and 2 broker-based MSDW accounts (3 MSDW in total). The brokers call me to participate in new MSDW mutual funds and/or secondaries that MSDW is underwriting IN EXCHANGE FOR allocations to MSDW ipos.

I dont know about secondaries though at Discover... would taking a secondary improve your chances of getting the next IPO?? If MSDW stated so in writing at the site, I'd be the first to jump onboard. This needs to more research.

Re: whether secondaries give you are sufficient "pop" or not-- I don't think there is a pattern. Some issues do, some don't.

MSDW is offering secondaries to its online customers. I have searched the web but cannot find an explanation of the benefits of buying a secondary. Since you get no immediate price break, why not buy the stock on the open market?
