Steve- I don't believe I'm the Mike you are referring to. I don't believe I've ever posted much, or at all, to the ALA thread in the past. I believe, but you may know better, ALA was asked directly about NN and said, "No." As far as Cabletron, I would be surprised if ALA would want to move into the enterprise space via a purchase of CS. But I'm so out of touch with CS, maybe they have made inroads into the North American carrier space. I know that was the goal a year or so ago. Marconi. Well that's one interesting company. Based in the UK so it's hard to find info on. It was much easier just a few months back. They had a website that was just a portal to their US buyouts, Ohio based, "Realtec," and Pittsburgh based, "Fore Systems." Realtec had a huge portfolio of products for the telco market. Fore was an ATM switching specialist of great interest to telcos too. Now those links are gone. With the purchase of these two, among others whose names escape me now, I think Marconi is a formidable competitor in the US telco space. There are ADR's that are traded here. Details can be found on Marconi's website. If you do a SI search limited to the Last Mile thread (type in, "Marconi"), I posted a few notes/comments about them. I started way back when they first purchased Realtec. Then I posted when they purchased Fore. From what I recall, they have a strong foothold(via Realtec) in the US NGDLC(Next Generation Digital Loop Carrier) market. NGDLCs are very important to the telcos as they deploy high speed DSL services. If you find anymore info on them that looks interesting, please send my way. If you don't want this thread to get too far off topic, you can do so via a PM. I'd appreciate it. Thanks. -MikeM(From Florida)
