The first GENERAL MOTORS Internet-connected talking vehicles will roll out of factory doors in a few months, the NEW YORK TIMES is planning to report in Sunday editions. According to publishing sources, TIMES reporter Robyn Meredith is putting the final touches on a story reserved for Page One detailing the automotive breakthrough. The driver will be able to tell the car to get on the internet, download e-mail. "A computerized 'voice' will be able to read the e-mail through the car's stereo speakers," Meredith reports. The car will call out sports scores on command, not just when a radio station programs them. It will quote the latest stock ticks. It will check the traffic and give directions. "Within three years it will be in all of the new vehicles that we're doing," Jac Nasser, FORD MOTOR's says. "We will do nothing short of transforming our cars and our trucks into a portal for the Internet." Ford's first talking cars will be new Lincolns, on sale by the fall, the TIMES reports. drudgereport.com
