I was out at 14.50, from 35%-45% gain for a period of 3-5 wks. Tiny amount though.

Anyway, the people selling are betting that the core earnings, with DIMD's usual quarterly red-ink added in will be a record -ve, possibly enough to make a dent in that us$800M umc war chest.

The people holding are betting that earnings will not be that bad, possibly even a profit after umc dividends. Or perhaps they think most investors will ignore core earnings and take the dividend from UMC as part of earnings.

What do I think? I'm guessing core earnings from operations alone will be a staggering loss, some people will look at the umc payments soothing the pain and live with that. If enough people overlook the core -ve earnings, this stock might still explode. Which would mean I made the wrong bet.

But, I'm betting that there will be overreaction as the earnings is announced and there'll be a buying opportunity. This time around, I might even play with real money (after earnings announced), if the numbers are not too catastrophic .

Could turn out either way. We'll see. Happy investing.
