Just curious - what if any LEAPS have you purchased in the last 1-2 months. Also, do you prefer going out 1 or 2 years? Why? Thanks,

Actually, taxman, LEAPS are the only options I have bought, with the exception of certain long term options for stocks that don't offer LEAPS, like GMST and JDSU. But I have been buying QCOM LEAPS, mainly Jan 2002 at strikes from 125 through 200, all of them slightly OTM when I bought. Also have some EMC, CSCO, AOL and TWX LEAPS. Thanks to Uncle Frank who first told me about LEAPS, and to Jill and Poet for starting this thread. LEAPS are a great leverage verhicle for LTH&B types especially with gorilla companies that have a bright future. With a couple of years to let them mature, the risk is fairly low and the reward potential quite high.

Oh, I just remembered, I also bought some near term QCOM puts as a hedge against my LEAPS when I thought QCOM was going to correct. It did, and my hedge payed off well and allowed me to get more LEAPS, but that was a unique situation.

taxman, Did you try MSFT options this time around. I looked at the options opportunity Friday when the stock had dipped down to 106 in the morning (for the Jan 115 calls) but i did not pull the trigger. One of the few times i missed a good MSFT options opportunity.
Hope you did better.

However, i did make big gains on Intel calls but sold at 94 ahead of earnings.

Taxman,

I have been lurking for 2 months. Joined 10 minutes ago. I am learning a lot from the posts on this board!
I believe in QCOM and long term future. Want to buy Leaps.
Low six-figure for Q. What would be an appropriate entry technique? Start Friday & "dollar-cost-average" over a number of months? Wait for February correction and drop the wad? Buy DIM? Buy OTM?
I read H. Roth book. Very good. He states majority of investors use DIM leaps. Why?
