It is QCOM, not GBLX, that is owed spectrum, or its equivalent (whatever that could be) by the FCC, and I believe that it was the Miami market, not Atlanta. The FCC still has not settled up with QCOM, and in fact, its gambit to revoke the Nextwave spectrum may be a step in that direction, in the FCC's mind at least.

Without again going into the legal theatrics of the battle between Nextwave and the FCC (about which I'm sure the thread believes I've posted enough <g>), I believe you are off base in your statement about GBLX possibly being in some way involved with a "shabby trick". The core of the difficulty is the statutory scheme for C-block, the several bankruptcies that ensued with respect to C-block bidders and the particularly ugly struggle among Nextwave (whose CEO, Salmasi, won no friends when he was with QCOM), NXTL and the misguided goons at the FCC. GBLX simply is looking for an opportunity to tuck in another piece into its ever-broadening business model. If Nextwave was going to be a viable user of spectrum, so be it. If GBLX can obtain spectrum by bidding directly, as it is apparently doing in the UK (see my earlier post containing url on Crescent) and could do if C-block comes up again in different guise, so be it. There is no moral or amoral element in any of this. IMO.

Is VOD talking to GBLX? Anyone who has info please post. I wouldn't be surprised to hear they are working on someting, especially with the PEC network up and running.

Vodafone Working on Other Deals

PARIS (Reuters) - Vodafone Airtouch Plc (VOD.L), embroiled in a battle to seize control of Mannesmann AG (MMNGn.DE), is currently working on other big deals, the company's chief executive said on Sunday.

In an interview to be published in French daily Le Figaro on Monday, Vodafone chief Chris Gent was asked whether European consolidation in the telecommunications and Internet sectors would accelerate following last week's AOL-Time Warner (AOL.N) (TWX.N) merger.

``We are working on other deals with big companies,' Gent replied. ``Other significant deals are on the way.'

Gent did not identify which companies Vodafone was talking to.
