Hi Jim:
After a brief prayer session for Dan, I had plenty of time left last night to add to my investment notes
Lets see now ....
1. CPQ is a dead duck (thats not the one)
2. KO is a dead duck( nope not that either)
3. Ah-ha Here it is. I wondered if any Dell Executive officers had experience at Intel to help get in-line for chips.
From Dells 10Q form they have...
11 years at RCA
23 years at Mot
12 years at Bain
6 years at Bain
5 years at Appl
4 years at NCR
18 years at ATT
9 years at Novell
9 years at Tandy
25 years at MOT
3 years at MCI
19 Years at Price Waterhouse
And also CPQ,cpq,CpQ, Convergent, Exelan, Txn, Sun, Amdahl, Grid, CPq, Kollsman, Olivetti. A truly mixed bag (G)
And finally, 18 years as VP at INTC by G.C.Everett. The man.
( Does not include the experience of the new CFO and the man from IBM)
Directors ages are 4<40, 8 in the 40's, 4>50
Big advantage here, they haven't learned how to lose yet(hehe)
Go Dell
Sig

Jim -
re: It looks like DELL will be shipping W2K workstations and servers for at least 8 days this quarter.
Unfortunately, none of DELL's workstations or servers are currently on the Win2K Hardware Certification list... see
microsoft.com
They have only 3 product lines listed, the Dimension L series, the Dimension Xps T-600, and the Optiplex GX100. No workstations. No notebooks. No WebPC.

Compare that to CPQ (directly above in the listing) which lists all the notebooks, PCs, and Workstations CPQ has produced over the last few years, 55 product lines in all.

This is significant because many commercial customers can not buy a HW / OS combination if it is not on the list, since MS WILL NOT SUPPORT A SERVICE CALL if it is not on the list...

This suggests to me that DELL does not plan to be very aggressive about actual shipments of Win2K enabled systems. It takes a while (3-4 weeks) to get through the certification test cycle at MSFT and we are only a week away from shipment.

I think your optimism about Win2K shipments is misplaced.
