Edwin, it's of course just my opinion but I think it highly possible that Softbank can never be listed in the U.S. The reason is that since it doesn't majority own most of its affiliated companies then it would be ruled to be a mutual fund in the U.S. This means that we all, and especially including Mr. Son, would have to pay capital gains taxes whenever the company sold part of an incubatee at the IPO.
But looking back at 1999, if it "ONLY" does as well in 2000 then we will be wildly rich and the stock price will be well past Jay's number of 800k yen. A bunch of new, loaded philanthropists will be born!

I remember that fateful day when I first walked (ran, actually) into my local bricks-and-mortar Merrill Lynch, something I thought I'd never do...but I needed a SFTBF odd lot by any means necessary...

So I asked the broker "Have you heard of Softbank?" And he goes something like "Yeah, isn't that the bank for the software industry?"

PS I leave this thread for only a couple weeks, and come back to see all of ya talking about bagging mistresses and Trans Cosmos. Bad boys.

Softbank has gotten many mentions in the mainstream US financial press over the last year. There are very few
analysts promoting Softbank to US investors though. Even some pretty sophisticated "old line" investors that I
know are only dimly aware of Softbank. Is it a software company? Is it a bank? That will be corrected once
Softbank is traded on a US exchange.
